Sycamore Tree Project

Introduction

The introduction of STP program in Zambia has brought a new wave of excitement and expectations. STP is a discipleship program following TPJ of which everyone has been looking forward to. There has been a big cry for a discipleship program in nature because TPJ is evangelistic in nature. The volunteers who went through STP training are excited about the coming of STP in prisons.

What worked well

The STP- CLT and TTT training worked well. The volunteers who were invited turned up.  Volunteers came from all five invited care groups. We are grateful for the coming of Roy Moussalli from Lebanon for Restorative Justice –CLT and TTT training in Ndola, Zambia. The training also involved ten chaplains from the five correctional facilities.

Key accomplishments

  • The coordinators training in Medellin, Columbia.
  • CLT and TTT training in Ndola, Zambia.
  • Training ten chaplains as part of teachers.
  • Training of the volunteers.

This section should contain testimonials and profiles of prisoners, volunteers, staff, partners, or other stakeholders who have conveyed a true, accurate picture or comment on how the program is progressing. These stories may be positive, or may not be.

Volunteers appreciated the sessions, they participated actively and testified that the training was a great one. The lessons were easy to understand. They testified that the facilitator was very good. He took his time to make sure everyone was carried along. All the volunteers were happy with the materials used throughout the sessions.

The program has been accepted as life-changing and Zambia prison Service is very excited and is looking forward to its implementation of the same to inmates. They also testified that it will promote reconciliation amongst inmates.

Glory be to God for the practical part of the program. We experienced an exciting moment when we brought 2 families together for reconciliation. Kasweka came through STP office to seek for reconciliation with the victim’s family. PF Zambia facilitated the prepared both the offender’s  and victims family process until the day of reconciliation. We are grateful to PFI for such a great program for as we speak more reconciliation are about to take place.

Conclusion

PF Zambia will continue changing lives of in-mates through Sycamore Tree Project programs. Great thanks go to PFI for their dedication and support to local NMs. God bless you in abundance
